The week of April 6 - 10th, 2020 Grade 8
Pretty Lab Flame Colours
-down load the pdf of the lab from the Science textbook pages 224-225 and do the formal lab write up
-watch the attached Youtube videos that demonstrate the lab being done
-use the sample materials from the videos ( instead of from the text) and complete the "Data/Observation" part of your lab write up
-answer the following question in the "Questions" section of your lab
1) Did each solution have a unique flame colour and if not, which solutions had the same or similar flame colour ?
-complete a "Conclusion" as well that summaries what you discovered and answers the purpose.
Complete the work and submit via your Google Classroom in your teacher's blog...if you used paper and manually created it, you can take a picture and add that to the blog as well.

Week of May 11 - 15th Grade 8
This week we are beginning to study Plate Tectonic Movement. Below are two youtube videos to watch that should certainly help you to recall some previous information from your Elementary school days. After watching the posted videos your assignment is to research, using the internet, information on "First Peoples" knowledge of local geological formations and significant local geological events. This week should provide a final opportunity to complete any missing assigned work and submit it.
Assignments:
- watch posted videos on Plate Tectonic Movement (do not need to take notes)
- research information on "First Peoples" knowledge of local geological formations and significant local geological events (have a site that you can use to reference / take notes from at a later date)
- complete /submit any missing assignments / projects
This week is also used to complete and submit any other assignments that were previously assigned. If you have any additional time you can use it to research additional information on " Plate Tectonics "

Week of May 18 -22 Grade 8
- Read the information provided regarding continental drift and complete the questions provided neatly and clearly.(both can be found below)
- This week is also used to complete and submit any other assignments that were previously assigned

Week of May 25 -29 Grade 8
1) Research information on "First Peoples" knowledge of local geological formations and significant local geological events (have a site that you can use to reference [cite] sources).
2) Take notes from your research.
3) Next create either a poster on paper or a slideshow including the information you have found. Make sure whatever you do that it's attached to the Google Classroom Assignment!
4) Remember that Google searches are not simply the first 5 sites you see, you may have to dig a bit to find the good stuff. I would recommend "googling" how to properly make searches on Google.
5) A big part of this assignment is based on your effort and what you find, so dig deep here folks!

This week is a completion / additional time allotment. Please make sure to check your google classroom assignments to make sure all work is completed and submitted to the correct google classroom doc. You should have had it marked and returned.
Next week you will get an assignment about "Layers of the Earth" and have one week to complete and submit.

This week you will read information on plate tectonics and the different layers of the Earth. Below is a pdf text document that contains general information on the topics. When you have read the posted information then complete the posted pdf worksheets "Layers of the Earth" , "Features of plate tectonics" and "Seismic waves, earthquakes, and volcanoes". Submit each of the completed worksheets to the correct google classroom doc by Friday.

This week includes reading a summary of how to write formulas / naming of ionic and covalent compounds. There is a posted pdf of a partially completed Assignment sample of the work / detail that needs to be shown on your worksheets ( there is probably not enough room on the worksheets ) so questions should be done on a separate piece of paper. Please make sure to review any previously posted videos on the topic before beginning the worksheets below. There are additional youtube videos to watch to help with Ionic Compounds and Covalent Compounds. You will complete and submit the worksheets for this unit. There will be a test posted next week that you will complete and submit for grading.
Assignment:

The Week of May 11 - 15th , 2020 Grade 9
This week includes writing the Chemistry Test on Covalent and Ionic Compounds, marking the test, and then submitting your mark to the google classroom site. The test will be posted on Wednesday of this week (you complete it that day), the answers will be posted on Thursday (you mark it), and then Friday you can submit your score (along with your work) to the google classroom doc. Extra time this week is used for completing any missing work and submitting it. Attached below are 3 pdf's of submitted student work for the previous three (3) worksheets. Check your work to these posted.
Assignments:
- study / review for Test Ionic and Covalent Compounds
- Wednesday complete Test Ionic and Covalent Compounds (will be posted May 13th, Wednesday, 2020. You can find the test in pdf format below. It's approximately 36 marks in total.

Please watch the following YouTube video of Bill Nye that talks about electricity. There is a worksheet pdf below which you will need to complete. The video will cover some of the information on the worksheet, however you will have to spend time researching information from other sites in order to answer some of the questions. When done submit for marking by Thursday. Finally, below is a pdf which contains the "Individual Electrical Safety Project ". You should be able to complete the project and submit by Wednesday of next week.
